Our thoughts!
We tested out the newest flavors: Winter Mint, Sugar Cookie, Sugar & Spice, and Sugar Plum Fairy.  Every Softlips gave our lips a little tingle which we liked.  The Winter Mint was a light peppermint flavor, not too over powering.  Sugar Cookie was sweet, sugary and really did smell like a sugar cookie!  My daughter's fave was the Sugar Plum Fairy, this one was like a sweet plum candy.  I loved the Sugar & Spice, it reminded me of cloves and gingerbread men.  We just loved the new flavors and Softlips has the most perfectly sized slender stick for getting around all those lovely lip curves.
Softlips availability:
Now throughout the holiday/winter season, there will be select dual packs (Winter Mint/Vanilla, Sugar Cookie/Raspberry, and Sugar Cookie/Cherry) available at stores such as Walmart, Target and Rite Aid for $3.99.  There is also a special winter 5-pack that is available exclusively in the Softlips online store, Softlips.com that offers all four winter flavors and a bonus flavor of Mint with a hint of Vanilla.  This set comes packaged in a festive blue sachet for $9.99 (only .99 cent shipping!).  Don't forget, there is a coupon in the 10/16 SS for $1 off 2 Softlips products, expires December 31st.

Online Scrubs at Blue Sky Scrubs Your Scrubs and More Store!

On the lookout for comfortable but still stylin' scrubs?  Well http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/ is the place to look because they carry a large variety of high quality, affordable medical scrubs and scrub caps.  Blue sky scrubs have quickly become a must-have accessory for doctors, nurses, surgeons, and other medical professionals worldwide.  All scrub hats are made in the U.S. of A!  There are so many different fun and exciting colors and patterns to choose from!
Shelby modeling a disposable scrub hat
The creator of blue sky scrubs, Shelby Marquardt, was an anesthesiology resident in Houston TX when she introduced her line of of scrub hats which were actually blue sky's first product!  Shelby had spent most of her time in the operating room feeling blah from having to always wear the same unattractive and bad fitting scrub hats for long hours every single day.  The worst part was, her long hair barely fit under there and she did not want to have any part in the hairnet style hats that were available.  So Shelby created and patented her own Pony Scrub hat for longer hair and Pixie Scrub Hat for shorter hair.  Finally she created a line of scrub tops and bottoms that have become popular in hospitals around the globe.
Looking for a unique and memorable gift for a special person this holiday season?  If they are in the medical field they will be sure to appreciate your kind gesture of a gift from blue sky scrubs.  There are designer scrubs, hand sewn designer scrub hats, men's scrubs and even badge holder lanyards that look like cute jewelry.  Go to blue sky scrubs for your scrubs and more store!  Not sure what items to pick out or short on time?  Well blue sky scrubs has gift certificates available that you can purchase in any denomination and have emailed directly to your gift recipient.

Diaper rashes can be tough to deal with.  Knowing what kind of cream to buy is twice as hard!  As a careful parent I find myself checking the ingredients out and always looking for products that are safest for my children.
Grandma El's diaper rash remedy + prevention contains proven safe and natural ingredients.  Ingredients like vitamin E and lanolin help to soothe the affected skin and allow it to heal because this special formula allows baby's skin to breathe.  This pediatrician tested and approved ointment has no parabens, SLS or pthylates in its formula.

I have used Grandma El's for about three weeks.  We have used it on diaper rashes, small scratches, cracked heals, dry cuticles, chapped lips and even razor burn.  There are so many uses!
This ointment is creamy and smooths on without being greasy.  There was no real smell that I noted, it is pretty much completely unscented which is perfect for sensitive skin.  When applied this actually stopped the pain of my baby's rash.  His bad diaper rash was cleared up within 24 hours, I am impressed.

Marzetti Simply Dressed Salad Dressing Review

Naturally delicious Marzetti Simply Dressed dressings are the perfect addition to every meal.  Look at just how many varieties there are to choose from!  I personally tried the Simply Dressed & Light dressing.  I really wanted the strawberry poppy seed but my store was completely sold out of every single jar save one ranch.  I put my disappointment aside and tossed the plastic jar into my basket along with a beautiful pre-made salad that had sliced hard boiled egg and tomatoes on top of a gorgeous bed of green romaine.
When I got home I was starving!  It was just after lunch and all my pre-Thanksgiving dinner shopping had made me so hungry.  I sat down at the table with my crisp salad and my new Marzetti dressing.  I had a tough time unscrewing the lid, it was on there so tight!  While I was trying to pry the lid off I noticed the expiration date, it was so far away.  I love it when something like salad dressing can last so long unopened in my fridge, just love it!  When that lid came off I just peeled back the easy pull tab foil cover and dipped some leaves of my salad right into the thick contents.  "Yum" I said out loud as my teeth rolled the salad leaves around over my tongue savoring every flavor hidden within my new dressing.  The smell was intoxicating, fresh and oh so exactly what I had expected a great ranch to be.
The flavors were perfectly balanced.  I could not tell that I was eating a light dressing.  All I tasted was the richness of the buttermilk, the sea salt, the garlic and the onions.  The way it felt in my mouth was so absolutely creamy, dreamy...ahhhh I am in love.  I am in love with a salad dressing that is good for my diet!  At 70 calories and just 6 grams of fat per 2 tablespoon serving too!  I had been having such a rough time finding a light dressing for my vegetables and salads.  Everything I tried was too bland, too vinegary, too sweet, too yuck.  Now I can enjoy eating all those servings of vegetables and not feel like I am missing out in the least.  The price is not too shabby either.  I calculated that each serving would cost me about .21-.25  cents, depending on whether or not I get it on sale or use a coupon.
Another thing that makes me excited are all the amazing recipes on the Marzetti website!  I can't wait to try them all.  I downloaded and printed several so I could have them clipped to my fridge in case I am ever wondering what to make for a meal, there they are.  If you haven't yet, sign up for their newsletter so you can get coupons, updates and other special offers from Marzetti.  They even have a Facebook page, it's a great community where fans can gather tips and share info directly with other Marzetti fans.  I really do recommend this product and I cannot wait to try them all!

I was one of the bloggers selected by T. Marzetti Company and Clever Girls Collective to host a Marzetti Simply Dressed review. They provided me with product to test myself and compensation for my time. However, my opinions are entirely my own.

It's pie time of year! Grand Traverse Pie Company Review

-->Grand Traverse Pie Company
The Grand Traverse Pie Company was founded in 1996 by Mike and Denise Busley in Traverse City, Michigan. The original shop is still operated by Mike and Denise. It strives to set the example and serve as the model from which all other Grand Traverse Pie Company shops evolve. The original Traverse City shop has been featured both regionally and nationally as a premier destination for great pies, which can now be shipped directly to you.

Now to tempt you with my tantalizing pie pictures and review!
We sampled GT Pie Company's award winning Northport Pumpkin, Grand Traverse Cherry Crumb, and Peninsula Apple Crumb.
Northport Pumpkin:
Country Living Magazine describes this as ". . . a dense, mousse-like texture and a crust detail that won our hearts."  I have to agree wholeheartedly!  I have never ever tasted such a rich, decadent, perfectly spiced pumpkin pie in my life.  The crust was so flaky, delicate and buttery with a bit of chew near the filling.  I have made some pretty darn good pies in my lifetime but I doubt I could recreate this one, it has something special about it, something that I just cannot put my finger on.  This pie was good chilled, room temperature and slightly heated.  Of course we had to top it with a huge dollop of whipped cream!  I could only eat a couple bites since I am on the Nutrisystem diet but those bites were heavenly.
Grand Traverse Cherry Crumb:
Northern Michigan is known for producing some of the best cherries in the world.  This amazing pie is filled with Montmorency tart cherries.  This cherry variety is light red, mostly are grown in northern Michigan and they are the most popular cherry sold in the U.S.  The tartness of these cherries mixed with the ooey gooey sweet filling, contained in that flaky crust and topped with the most buttery of crumb topping makes for the most divine pie.  “I don’t think I’ve ever had as good a pie as Grand Traverse Pie Company’s Cherry Crumb Pie... It’s a religious experience.” — Mario Batali, The Food Network
Peninsula Apple Crumb:
All of the apples inside of this pie are grown in Michigan at Smeltzer Orchards.  The apples used inside of this pie are slightly tart, the sweet cinnamon filling that almost oozes out of the pie once it is cut is perfectly caramelized and really compliments those apples well.  Silence in our house is rare but when I had the family taste a slice of this one there was complete silence!  The silence was then followed by happy and content sighs.  How is this pie SO good?!  We just couldn't believe it!  If we had to pick a favorite it would be this pie.

Simply Potatoes Mashed Varieties Review & #Giveaway Ends 11/21 @ 12:01 am EST

Family meal-time can be crazy, especially when you throw in a few crazy kids that ask a million questions about the universe while you are trying to cook and one slightly picky husband that likes to have everything homemade!  Homemade takes time, time that most days as a busy mom I do not have or am too tired to take.  Well making mashed potatoes isn't going to stress me out anymore because Simply Potatoes has created delicious already to go mashed varieties that taste homemade but take only a few minutes to make.
No more washing, peeling, slicing, boiling, mashing and then cleaning out a crusty pot and bowl later!  All you need to do is toss these into the microwave (can use oven or pot too) and ta-da.  Noone knew I had not made these by hand, they were that good.  I chose to go with the Traditional Mashed, they were perfectly fluffy and everyone asked for seconds.  Next time I am going to try the Mashed Sweet Potatoes, we love them here and those are even more work to prepare by hand so I cannot wait to put my feet up while the microwave does the work LOL.
I just scooped my taters into a nice bowl, tossed on a pat of butter and some paprika.  Don't they look yummy?  Mmmm yes!  I used my extra time to make an extra tasty roast chicken. (Recipe will be posting on my blog soon)  I had one very happy family last night.

Looking for a comfort food to help make your holiday feast go more smoothly?  Simply Potatoes comes in many varieties to match any taste.  FYI these are also gluten free.

Simply Potatoes Mashed Varieties:

Thanksgiving Day Butterball Turkey - #Giveaway Ends 11/17 12:01 am

Last year was crazy for us, we had just had our third child in August and my husband was working a lot of crazy hours so it was up to me to make Thanksgiving dinner on my own so it would be ready when he got home.  Having to nurse my new 3 month old son AND cook the dinner was hard but I got it done and the above photo was the fruits of my labor.  Luckily I had one of the happiest little guys in the world and he took naps at all the perfect times.  I was on a gluten free diet and so everything you see above was gluten free and all homemade.  The turkey was a Butterball turkey and wow did it turn out nice!  That turkey roasted up all golden brown on the outside and super juicy on the inside.  All I did was follow the instructions on their website.  There is a very helpful set of videos that you can watch.  I just love how delicious Butterball's turkeys are and that we can always count on them to be consistently good every year.
A good tip when planning your holiday feast is to begin at least a week in advance.  It is a good idea to write out a list of all the dishes you want to make and then write how long they take in the oven or crock pot next to each item.  You will want to have everything come together all at the same time and so timing is key.  The other thing you have to think about is oven space.  That big turkey takes up a lot of space and so you have to plan around it.  One thing to remember is that when you take your turkey out, it needs to rest for a while so you will have a little bit of time to maybe bake up some rolls or brown some dressing.
Another good way to stay on task and make your Thanksgiving Day dinner go more smoothly is to invite a couple of guests over that you know may not have someone to share their day with.  Ask them to bring one or two side dishes, thus helping to relieve a bit of pressure off of you to make them, as well as helping another individual feel loved on a day when they might otherwise be lonely.  Thanksgiving dinner is also a great way to enjoy the fellowship of others.
When you have a few children to tend to it's always helpful to plan an activity or two for them to stay occupied with.  I get out the play dough or some coloring books and set my kids up at the kitchen table so that I can keep an eye on them while I cook.  If there is something that they can help with then I throw on their little aprons and wash their hands/arms and let them help me out by measuring or stirring something.  Cooking the meal and hanging out together is half the fun!  Of course having an infant to care for brings on a whole new level of added stress so it is always nice to have help but if you do not then you might find yourself planning your cooking and preparations around nap time.  If you need some ideas, Butterball has some helpful activities and tips just for kids: http://www.butterball.com/kids
Butterball also loves to help out with you and your turkey.  Any time you are needing some answers you can go online to their website: http://www.butterball.com/ or you can give their turkey help-line a call and someone will help you out: 1-800-BUTTERBALL (800-288-8372) Weekdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST (Central Standard Time).  There is even a nifty set of calculators on their website to help you figure out those troublesome questions that are floating around in your brain such as portion sizes, cook times or how long to thaw.  Need some coupons or looking for the latest Butterball promos?  Look here: http://www.butterball.com/promotions  Last but certainly not least, if you need some recipes for using up any leftovers go here: http://www.butterball.com/search_recipes/leftovers+recipes there are some greats meals to be had for the days following your feast.
Now for the giveaway part!  Butterball wants to give two of my readers one of their delectable turkeys!  All you have to do is enter this giveaway on the form below and I will pick two people to receive a coupon good for any turkey up to $15!  Right now with the sales that are happening you should be able to get a fairly large turkey with that.  So hurry and enter, time is running out until turkey-day!  This giveaway ends 11/17 at 12:01 am EST!  TWO winners will be selected and I will mail your coupon out immediately the next day so you should get in within enough time to run out and get a free turkey and still have enough time for it to thaw.  If you want a speedy thawing method, I recommend using a bucket in the bathtub with cool water running into it at a steady trickle, it works great!

Homemade Apple Butter Crockpot Recipe - Thanksgiving Dinner

Right now we are all probably planning the details and menus for our Thanksgiving day meals.  This week I will be posting a part of the traditional Thanksgiving meal, I hope you will follow along with me as we enjoy the delicious items that come together to form one of the most special times of the year.  This recipe also makes nice Christmas gifts.  Homemade is from the heart!
Every year there is always this super amazing sale on apples at my local grocery store.  This year was no different, they were .49 cents per pound which is a steal!  Apple butter is one of my most favorite ways to preserve the delicious tastes of fall and so I have created my own delicious recipe.       This recipe is simple to make, once all the ingredients are in you just turn on your crock pot and let it do its work for a full 24 hours.  I only use Gala apples because they are what give my butter its unique and perfect taste.  Gala apples don't bruise as easily as most apples and have that wonderful sweet but slightly tart flavor.  These apples store very well and I have been able to keep them for months in my fridge.  When you taste this apple butter recipe you will want to eat it ALL!  The nice thing to do is share lol, so I have included canning directions as well.
This recipe makes 6 - 8 oz jelly jars full plus one for you to eat right away hehe...Enjoy!  Hopefully this lasts until Thanksgiving day, it is amazing on biscuits or fresh rolls.  Once open you want to finish a jar within 7-10 days for the best quality.
Recipe:
6lbs gala apples, peeled and cored you should end up with 5 lbs 7-8 oz
2 cups apple cider (I use the sparkling apple cider that is not too sweet)
2 tsp Saigon cinnamon, plus a pinch more if you like cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp nutmeg (use a pinch less if using fresh)
3-4 tbsp Tropical Traditions raw honey

Directions:
1.  Core all the apples, peel them, slice into 1" sized cubes and throw into a really big bowl (or two!).  My kids love to eat the peels, they can be a fun snack.
2.  Add the rest of the ingredients onto the apples then toss lightly to coat.
3.  Pour all into the crock pot (mine is 6 qts size), it will be bursting with apples but do not worry they will cook down.
4.  Plug the pot in and turn on low, keep the lid on (as good as it will fit if they are overflowing lol) for the first 20 hours and then off to the side for the last 4.  The whole house will smell amazing!
5.  Stir the apples with a rubber spatula after the first 10 hours have passed.
6.  Stir again after another 10 hours, this is when you will slide the top to the side so that moisture can escape as they cook down even more.
7.  As they cook down and thicken in those last four hours you will want to keep an eye on them just in case your crock pot is different.  You want them to be a nice brown color with a bit of liquid still in there.
8.  In the last hour take an immersion blender and blend them up into "butter".  Be very careful, this will be very hot and you don't want to burn yourself!  I like to submerge it and slowly move it around until all apples are blended smoothly.
9.  In this last hour you will also want to prepare the canning area and jars.  If you are not familiar with canning or just don't have the time then this recipe also freezes just fine, no worries!  If you choose the freezer be sure to use it up within 6 months.
Before
After
 10.  Set up your canning area.
When I set up my canning area I make sure that everything is really clean, sanitized/disinfected and free of anything that could contaminate the food I am going to can.  I don't own any special or pricey equipment, just my normal stock pot and some old tongs.
11.  Jars.  I like to purchase Ball brand jelly jars, they come with the lids and some cute stickers to label your jars once you are finished canning.  I just sanitize them in the dishwasher an hour before I am ready to begin canning.
12.  Prepping the jars and lids.  I fill a bowl with super hot water and put in all my jars and lids, for this recipe you will need 7 - 8 oz jelly jars (6 if you want to just throw some uncanned into the fridge).  Let those sit in that hot water until right before you are going to fill them.
13.  Get your stockpot or canner pot boiling with cover on, full of enough water to fully cover the jars once they are in.  You will want a rack in the bottom of your canner but if you don't have a special rack you can use several cheap butter knives like I did.  I just criss crossed about 6 or 7 knives in the bottom of my pot and it does the job just fine, just so the jars are not sitting on the bottom of the pot.
14.  Filling the jars.  Once the water is boiling it is go time!  Have a wet cloth ready to wipe the sides and lips of the jars in case you spill a little.  Fill each jar almost full with a small ladle, leaving 1 inch at the top empty then screw on the lids until just tight. You want to work quickly so that the jars are all still fairly hot.  Once all are full then take the tongs and set them into your pot, cover and boil for 14 minutes.  Note: if you live above 6,000 ft altitude then add 5 more minutes to the boiling time.
15.  Finished product.  Once the time is up, turn off the heat and let the jars rest for about 5 minutes in the water.  Take your jars out with the tongs and rest on a towel for 12-24 hours before your disturb them.  Don't worry, the lids will suck in.  make sure they are in the place that no one will bother them at.  So now your delicious apple butter is all ready and shelf stable for 18 months to 2 years!  Spread on anything you wish.  Our favorite thing to top is a warm biscuit right out of the oven.  I hope I didn't miss anything, if you have any questions please leave me a comment.

*If you share my recipe please reference my site and link to this post, thanks.

Flatout Bread Simply Awesome Flatbread Review & Giveaway Ends 11/25 12:01 am

From the moment our family of five tried Flatout flat bread we were hooked!  Not only do these taste phenomenal but they are easy to store in the fridge or freezer, they work so much better than normal bread for making lunches and they are healthy.  We are ALL about healthy now days!  I am on a diet, my husband is not and the kids just need to eat healthier.  Flatout is good for us all.  I get to enjoy the Light Flatout, my husband enjoys the Honey Wheat, the kiddos love their Fold-its and my 1 year old baby boy enjoys the Edge On Crisps.  The flat breads all freeze very well and fit so nicely as opposed to a whole loaf of bread...I just love these!  I just take a frozen pack out before I go to bed and toss it into the fridge, it is always thawed by lunchtime.
A favorite lunch for my kids is the photo above.  I heat up my waffle iron and then spritz it with a bit of oil.  I take one Flatout bread Fold-it (they love the whole wheat with flax) and spread on 1/2 tsp mayo then put 1 oz mesquite turkey breast slices along with 1/2 of one slice provolone cheese.  I fold this in half and put onto my waffle iron and press down until one cycle is finished.  Once it is out I pop it open and slip in a bit of fresh romaine lettuce.  My kids beg for another as soon as they have finished their first.  Also pictured is the Light Flatout, that one is mine with mostly just turkey and lettuce.
Flatout bread can also be turned into some fun meals!  You can roll them up and slice into little pinwheels.  You can roll them up, stick pretzels in the sides and make a bug for the kids lol.  So many options.  These are available at a grocer near you or online: http://www.flatoutbread.com/  There is a coupon waiting for you if you like their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/FlatoutBread

Tommee Tippee Explora Tableware Review and #Giveaway Ends 11/24

Tommee Tippee solved the problem of plates ending up on the floor!  My son K throws everything on the floor and I spend half of the day picking up after him.  I usually put him in his high chair with his food while I prepare supper for the rest of the family.  So much ends up on the floor because he loves to play around with his food.
Right now K is old enough (14 mo) to start learning how to feed himself with a spoon or fork.  I am trying to train him to use a spoon to scoop his food from his bowl or plate and it has been slow going since he just tosses the plate on the floor the first chance he gets.  Well that was until I tried Tommee Tippee's Explora tableware!  Their easi-mat system works.  I was a bit skeptical of the mat when I took it out of the package but then amazed at how well it worked!  I can lift the whole highchair tray up by the plate!  The spoons fit easily in my baby K's hand and have a deep enough dip to scoop things out with.  The plate has three sections which we love and everything can hop right into the dishwasher.  So here is a photo of the items I tried out.

And here is a little video!  lol I am so bad at talking on camera, my mind blanks hehe.
