We have been working on fixing up our kitchen for over 2 whole years now (far TOO long!). We are on a very tight budget and have been relying on the help of family (who are way too busy in their own lives) to get the job done. I just wanted to share because a couple days ago we had our butcher block countertop installed and I am in love! There is still so much to do but I'm sure we will slowly chip away at it. The countertop was a big event, I cried all day once I found out it would be installed lol. I have never been so happy about my kitchen. Once you have waited for as long as I have it feels like a weight has been lifted to have something done.
I was inspired by the very 1st photo you see, the wood counter looked warm and inviting and was exactly what our kitchen needed. I chose white cabinets because our home is so tiny. I wanted the room to feel bright and airy. An undermount sink was a must in my book! I just had to have a deep one too, that way I can fit my big pots and pans in there without any trouble. Another thing was the peninsula area, it needed lots of storage for all of our many appliances so we had shelves built onto both sides for easy storage. A good pot rack was also a must have because we own so many nice pots and pans and they had nowhere to go!
So far spent:
$2,000 on the cabinets from Discount Home Improvement
$700 on the butcher block countertop ordered from Lumber Liquidators
$40 for a Franke extra deep undermount sink bought off of craigslist (normally over $250)
$0 for a lovely faucet from a home improvement store thanks to some rebates (normally $55)
$0 for the gorgeous pot rack thanks to a blog opp (normally $65)
$60 for Waterlox to seal the counter
-Spice rack backsplash/stainless steel
-Tiling the backsplash
-Painting the wall and peninsula
Next year...(pending we have the money)
-replacing the flooring
-taking out an old chimney to put another cabinet
-new appliances, especially an over the range microwave with hood!
I hope to post pictures once more is finished. Thanks for letting me share!
