A few months ago an acquaintance had their first baby. She was our favorite photographer and we have used her quite a few times. Recently she had to go back to work and I noticed her posting on Facebook about how tired she was. Her little girl has been keeping her and her husband up at night. There was even a day when she wore two different earrings because she was so tired. My heart went out to her, I knew she could use some cheering up!
I could so relate because I had been there too. The sleepless nights, the frazzled brains, wearing two different socks because of the lack of rest. My daughter is now 9 years old but back when she was three months old I was dealing with colic and a husband that worked 2 full time jobs. I literally would not get sleep for 48 hours at a time. It was rough and a big struggle but I got through it. I only wish that someone had taken notice and cared enough to give me the gift of some sleep. I know how it feels to be dragging through the day I wanted to help a new mom out.
I was sent a $100 gift card to go out and shop for items to give someone the "gift of sleep". I was also sent a couple packs of Pampers diapers to add to my gift. I shopped and shopped and put together quite the basket of goodies that I hope would help my recipients get some extra zzz's or at least a little bit of peace. I even edited a beautiful photo and added a Bible verse about sleep then framed it to add to my basket. I think it turned out really cute!
My "gift of sleep" baskets included:
-Pampers Swaddlers size 3
-Pampers Baby Dry size 4 (these have 12 hrs of overnight protection)
-paper plates
-paper bowls
-paper cups
-napkins
-plasticware
-micro fleece bath coverup for mommy
-mini zen garden
-cooling gel eye mask
-princess night light for baby
-fuzzy pink socks for mommy
-white teddy bear baby towel for bath time
-lavender sesame street lotion for baby
-melatonin strips that dissolve in your mouth
-Kiss My Face olive oil and lavender bath set which included shampoo, body wash, lotion and soaps
-frosted glass candle plate
-3 white candles in glass jars
-soft cotton Carter's pants and matching long sleeve top for baby
-multi-pack of cute soft bibs for baby
-hot cocoa with mini marshmallows
-crossword puzzle book
-homemade framed art with a Bible verse about sleep
I may have forgotten an item that was in there but you get the point. I stuffed everything into a large hatbox that I bought at a craft store. I ran out of room for the diapers so I put those with a card I'd printed into a Dollar Tree bucket. I am hoping that the disposable tableware will give the couple a few nights free of doing any dishes and that the rest will be useful in helping them to relax and get a little extra rest. I do know that having the right diaper is a big life saver and Pampers is a great choice. Filling this gift basket up and being able to surprise the special parents was so much fun!
